東京株式市場では、日経平均が続落。後場に入って先物主導で急速に水準を切り下げ、一時は１万３０００円を割り込んだ。スタンダード・アンド・プアーズ（Ｓ＆Ｐ）が米住宅ローン保証会社４社を格下げしたことが材料になった。しかし、先物売りが値動きを目的としたディーリングだったことから、売り一巡後は手仕舞いの買い戻しが入り、日経平均も下げ渋って終値ベースでは１万３１００円台まで値を戻した。
東証１部騰落数は値上がり３７８銘柄に対し、値下がりは１２４５銘柄。変わらずは９６銘柄だった。
